EHF Fellows can attract philanthropic funding for their ventures. Projects with a charitable purpose may attract tax deductible donations even without a charity vehicle.

Slash for Cash
FUNDING GOAL: $42,000 NZD
The Slash for Cash project is an initiative of the Tolaga Bay Inn Charitable Trust (TBICT) which is supported and driven by TBICT members Tolaga Bay Innovation and These Hands GSSE with the main objective of encouraging community members to clean and heal the Tairawhiti and Wairoa regional lands by repurposing wood debris waste (slash) on the forestry lands, farmlands, orchards, beaches, waterways, roadsides and landfills into organic biochar fertilizer and smokeless charcoal briquettes; whilst also creating employment opportunities for the local east coast communities.
Led by Thabiso Mashaba (Manu Tukutuku) and Lily Stender (Ngā Manu Titi Rere Ao).
This project has NZ Charity status.
Scholarships
FUNDING GOAL: $15,000 NZD
This project provides scholarships and internships for people in Aotearoa New Zealand - where this also supports Fellows or their enterprises. Currently fundraising for Collective Intelligence (Ian Harvey-Ngā Manu Titi Rere Ao).
This project has NZ charity status.
Previous Projects Funded
National Kapa Haka Competition - Te Pā o Rākaihautū
TARGET FUNDING: $44,000 NZD
Help send students from unique 21st Māori Pā Wānanga (Learning Village) to represent their region at National Kapa Haka Competition from 29th October-3rd November 2023. This is the Primary School National Competition and Te Pā is one of three teams representing Waitaha - Canterbury. $500 will sponsor one student to attend from Te Pā o Rākaihautū in Ōtautahi Christchurch.

Supporting Wayfinding for Life
TARGET FUNDING: $40,000 NZD
Wayfinding for Life take students through the framework in a day filled with relays, poems, songs and even meditation. Not only do they create a compass to guide them to feel emotionally and physical better, they also identify what is and could go wrong in their lives. From there they create 5-step prevention plans. So far they’ve created 84 plans covering how not to fail exams, overthink things, be overcome with grief, or how to recover from injury or support family health.

Flood Resilient Housing
TARGET FUNDING: $45,000 NZD
Pilot project to design Aotearoa’s first buoyant foundation for rapid post flood rebuild or renovation. The prototype designs will be shared for public use. The first foundation will be combined with a climate resilient Truss House™ for a Hawkes Bay family displaced by Cyclone Gabrielle.

In Person NZ Representation to Negotiate International Carbon Neutral Standard
TARGET FUNDING: $15,000 NZD
To enable New Zealand EHF Fellow, Dr Ann Smith, to attend the final international negotiations on the draft ISO standard on carbon neutrality to ensure New Zealand's primary sectors interests are represented at ISO/TC 207/S in San José (Costa Rica) 5 Jun 2023.
Led by Dr. Ann Smith (Ngaa Reo Wheko) and Matthew Jackson (Kopakopa).
Space for Planet Earth Challenge 2023
TARGET FUNDING: $10,000 NZD
The challenge is a University/Startup and High School level competition that focuses on using space to address climate change. Leveraging satellite data, teams develop scientific methods to identify target areas of methane emissions on Earth to win up to $25kNZD.
Led by Emeline Paat-Dahlstrom (Kawakawa), Eric Dahlstrom (Kawakawa), Usman Iftikar (Karamū) and Rich Bodo(Kawakawa).
