Communications and Engagement Adviser - 12 month fixed term position

The Edmund Hillary Fellowship (EHF) is seeking a media-savvy and effective Communications & Engagement Advisor to support the profile building, storytelling and stakeholder relationships for a community of world-class innovators and entrepreneurs. This is a 12 month fixed term position to support EHF through a period of growth and activation.

About Us

EHF is a Fellowship community that provides exceptional entrepreneurs, investors and start up teams with a platform to incubate global impact ventures from Aotearoa New Zealand. 

We launched in 2016 in partnership with Immigration NZ to attract entrepreneurs, innovators and investors to Aotearoa NZ through a global impact visa programme. We now have a Fellowship of  532 high-calibre leaders from 57 countries in areas as diverse as aerospace, blockchain, regenerative agriculture, clean tech, education, social enterprise, and systems design.

In just four years, our Fellows have established at least 42 new ventures in New Zealand; invested $94 million into New Zealand startups, funds and businesses, and helped NZ businesses raise $572 mln through their contacts. And this is just the beginning. 

The visa attraction part of the programme is complete: now we need to activate impact. Our purpose is to partner with Aotearoa NZ to find and build solutions to our toughest challenges. Our vision is that Aotearoa NZ inspires global leadership and solutions for future generations. 

The Role

The purpose of this role is to help to build our profile, voice and impact with powerful storytelling that inspires New Zealand and the world. You will play an important and diverse role in supporting the Head of Communications & Engagement to identify, curate and share the EHF story and those of its fellows. You will be able to transverse a range of complex topics, craft beautiful and compelling written communications, whilst proactively managing risk and spotting opportunities. In this role, the advisor will be comfortable working at a range of levels - cross-team, with senior members of the team and its board, as well as EHF’s amazing array of fellows. An understanding and appreciation of Te Ao Maori would be advantageous. The advisor will be skilled at managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines, juggling a range of projects and chanels with ease. They will be professional, a problem-solver, and an excellent communicator.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implementing EHF’s media relations strategy

  • Supporting the delivery of EHF's stakeholder engagement plan

  • Working closely with the Fellowship Experience team and supporting channel management and channel improvements, information and message flow

  • Creating content and coordinating multi-format production

  • Supporting the amplification, development and protection of the EHF brand.

About You

Bringing a results-focused approach, you will have:

  • 3 - 5 years of experience working in communications roles - experience working across internal and external communications functions is preferable, but PR/media relations experience is a must

  • Experience using/working across a range of digital channels and producing written and visual materials

  • Experience working in a purpose-led organisation and complex stakeholder environment would be beneficial, as would demonstrated experience working successfully in diverse cultural contexts 

  • An understanding of or experience working with startups/entrepreneurs/innovators would be advantageous.
